This Sunday's away training fixture for the Minis Section at Reading RFC has been changed to a normal home training event, with no visiting team, your Age Group Manager will communicate details by e -mail.
Congratulations to all Minis teams who particpated in the Autumn Tournament on 1 November in weather conditions best described as character - building.
Heavy rains and strong winds did not deter players and their families as we hosted A&C, Windsor and Wallingford.
We put up a very strong performance across all age groups with special mentions to our pool winners; U7B, U9 A and B and U11B. Well done guys!
The overall club v club competition went down to the wire with Wallingford pipping BRFC by 2 points thanks to a stronger perfomrance in the last event to finish, the U12s.
Final overall scores were Wallingford 34, BRFC 32, A&C 30 and Windsor 26.
Thanks to all parents who volunteered on the day and to those who provided raffle prizes.
Coaches from Beaconsfield Rugby Club visited Holtspur School on Saturday 26th September as part of a multi-sport Come & Try day organised by the school's PE department
Tag Coaches Russell Green and Billy Orford trained Year 1-3 children in a Tag Rugby session , whilst Nigel Naylor-Smith and Ollie Levesley ran an introduction to contact rugby. Highlight of the day was a parents' tag match which attracted 16 dads.
BRFC Junior Chairman Jim O'Toole commented:
" This was a great opportunity to introduce rugby to kids and parents who haven't previously tried the sport. They clearly enjoyed the experience and we think we've found a few new players to add to the 500+ who play regularly at the club on Sunday mornings"
A lucky participant also won a family ticket package to the Wasps v Northampton game supplied by London Wasps as part of their BRFC community partner programme.
Welcome from Jim O'Toole, Chairman of Junior Rugby
Welcome to all 500+ junior members and their families to the 2009-2010 season at BRFC. The rugby fun has already started.
A couple of general housekeeping points to kick start the season.
We have allocated the kitchen and bar duty roster, this year all age groups are appointing a single K&B co-ordinator to manage their age groups allocated dates. Rai Pikelis, K&B manager will then deal with one point of contact per group on numbers etc. The new oven means that we can now start at 9 o'clock rather than 8.
In terms of communication, please use www.sportsclubhost.com as your means of updating contact details and availability. We shall be introducing an SMS messaging service which will allow for late Sunday morning communications where necessary so please make sure all relevant mobile numbers are listed. Most people will be used to the system, but if you have any issues Simon Pullen, Membership Secretary will be able to help, pullen.simon@googlemail.com
The Club Kit store has done a roaring trade in the first couple of weeks, and will be remain open on Sundays during the season. Many thanks to Gerry Matthews, Amanda Slegg and Laura Campbell for their efforts
Subscriptions are now due and our goal is to have all subs paid by the end of September to aid the general cash flow of the club, again via the above website.
Our pitches have all been allocated and will all be marked out over the next few weeks.
In keeping RFU regulations any person responsible for on pitch activity or in administration of kids details must have a Criminal Record Bureau (CRB) certificate. Mel Ashfield (melsemail2003@yahoo.co.uk) has kindly volunteered to undertake this crucial role and will process anyone who needs to get one for the first time or to renew. Age group managers will advise if you need one and the documentation you need to provide.
Mel Jones(Meljonesrugby@yahoo.co.uk) has volunteered to co-ordinate first aid courses and equipment.
Here's to a fun and successful season on and off the pitch, my contact details are otoolehome@btinternet.com
