Beaconsfield Under 6s Mini Rugby

Welcome to the Under 6s group at Beaconsfield Rugby club.   It is a nice club with very good support from mums and dads who bring their sons and daughters to regular Sunday morning training sessions.    

What is mini rugby?

Mini rugby is a safe, non contact form of rugby developed by the RFU for young players to be introduced to a safe form of rugby. Training follows strict guidance from the RFU with teams of 7 players playing mini rugby.

• Teams are made up of 7 players.
• Players must hold the ball with two hands
• Players wear belts with Velcro tags
• Players must stay on their feet
• The players pass the ball backwards
• Players score tries or collect tags
• No physical contact is allowed

Where Do We Train?

The home training takes place at the front of the club house on Sunday mornings.  Later in the season, the U6s will play at the Beaconsfield School.    Registration is at 10:15 and training starts at 10:30

How Many Children Play?

Children come from different backgrounds, schools and locations in and around Beaconsfield.  There are over 70 registered players and regularly well over 50 boys and girls attend training.  New players should contact pullen.simon@googlemail.com or can sign up at www.sportsclubhost.com by following the instructions.    

The children benefit from a variety of club core values:

• Training sessions follow the guidance issued by RFU for mini rugby
• Weekly prizes and sweets are given to deserving children for making good progress
• Hot dogs after every training session at the club house
• Inclusion in the ballot for international tickets
• Mums and dads social events occur during and after the season
• The under 6s do not participate in matches, tournaments and festivals or competitions

What Are The Age Requirements?

Children are eligible to play in U6s if their date of birth falls between Sept 1st 2002 and Aug 31st 2003.   Younger children must wait until they are at least 5 years old before they are can start. 

Head Coach Russell Green is assisted by many parent coaches (all CRB checked) who have gained coaching confidence and experience since the start of the season.   Each training session is planned in advanced.   Training sessions are geared to the season and player development. Experienced coaches and helping parents will supervise all training sessions. 

The older age groups have even had players who have gone on to play for England under 18s!   

What Is A Typical Coaching Session?

Training sessions are broken down into the following.

• On arrival -passing circles
• Warm-up - 10 minutes
• Skills Coaching - 45 minutes
• Game - 20 minutes
• Administration - 10 minutes

In the younger age groups this will vary depending on individual progress.
